A study schedule that just allocates hours to topics tends to fall apart by week three. Here's a structure that holds up, whichever licensing exam you're preparing for.

Most study schedules fail for the same reason: they allocate hours to topics instead of allocating hours to the gap between where you are and where the exam expects you to be. A schedule built around topic checklists looks productive in week one and falls apart by week three, once real life competes for the hours it assumed you'd have.
Before you schedule anything, find out where you actually stand — a diagnostic or placement assessment against the real exam blueprint, not a generic quiz. Without that, a study plan is a guess about which topics need the most time, and guesses are usually wrong in the same direction: overweighting what feels unfamiliar and underweighting what feels comfortable but is actually shakier than it seems.
Textbooks are organized for teaching; exam blueprints are organized by how heavily a topic is actually tested. A chapter can occupy a fifth of a textbook and a fraction of that share on the exam blueprint, or the reverse. Time spent proportional to chapter length, rather than proportional to blueprint weight, is time spent on the wrong things.
A schedule that only moves forward guarantees that the first thing you studied is the thing you remember worst on exam day. Spaced review — revisiting weak areas on a cadence, not just once — is what keeps early material from decaying by the time you sit the exam.
A schedule that assumes every week goes to plan breaks the first time one doesn't. Build in slack, and treat repeated mistakes on the same topic as a signal to re-allocate time toward it rather than a signal to move on and hope it improves on its own.
